Computer not updating dns
When if i am creating the HOST A record MANUALLY then PTR record gets created for the associated HOST A record. Dynamically updates DNS A and PTR records only if requested by the DHCP clients -- is checked Dicard A and PTR records when lease is delete --- is checked. If you were primary/secondary then zone transfers would come into play.
But even then this level of security is usually done when doing cross platform zone transfers. Good thing to know so I can add it to my DNS troubleshooting mental database.
It is assumed DNS/DHCP are using standard system accounts.
Greetings wanderer, i can go with the option which you told me to do that but before that i would like to inform you that earlier i was having the issue that "XP sp 2 machines unable to register their A record in DNS " So i worked with MS support and they did the trouble shooting and informed me to change the settings to the "Dynamically updates DNS A and PTR records only if requested by the DHCP clients -- is checked".
After making the settings things worked, but at that time i havenot check the PTR records.
So if i will revert the changes back to the one which you mention so again the previous issue will come into the picture.
pls help Let me explain more on my issue :-Have two DC's server A and Server B , on both the server DHCP and DNS is configured below Server AScope - 192.168.2.0Address pool- 192.168.2.50 - 10.5.2.150Scope - 192.168.4.0Address Pool - 192.168.4.50 - 192.168.4.150Server BScope - 192.168.2.0Address Pool- 192.168.2.151 - 192.168.2.250Scope - 192.168.4.0Address Pool - 192.168.4.151 - 192.168.4.250So can say i distributed the load.
One of my laptops (laptop-1) will not update the DNS.
I have cleared DNS, updated cache, ipconfig /flushdns, and tried to manually register the computer using ipconfig /registerdns.(Laptop-1) is a Win 7/64, SP1 with a dynamic IP address. To troubleshoot I created a new DHCP reservation with a different IP for (Laptop-1). Took another laptop with the same OS and config (Laptop-2), created a new DHCP reservation with a different IP for (Laptop-2).Performed ipconfig/renew, verified the new address was present. Performed ipconfig/renew, verified the new address was present. I have tried giving (laptop-1) many different IP’s, and getting them to register in DNS. Better yet, no errors in the local (Laptop-1) log event viewer, or the DNS/AD Server event viewer.FYI: I have review my firewall logs and rules and port 53 traffic (Watchguard DNS Proxy) is allowed between trusted and devices.
